Inclusion

Things to note since the last post:

Our summer challenge was accepted in to the ePoster competition and Ryan and I will be presenting October 3rd in Philadelphia at World Work Place.

I finally got together a good chunk of our "master plan" for the summer challenge. I'd been whittling away at it for some time and finally my advisor slapped me with a due date. So ... I bit the big one and banged it out on Friday. It feels better, slightly.

There have been some talks with in IFMA that have been hearing over time, since I got involved. It has been the same message... how do we educate the youngin's... they keep asking that question over and over, but the answer never becomes clear. Why? Because you have events like Facility Fusion where it was most attended by older white dudes in the industry.

There are also several forums that I've see the 'older white dudes' trying to figure out modern technology. I think there's a great middle ground there, somewhere.

I've started doing a whole lot of reading on this inclusion - specifically of generational inclusion. A lot of the results of the research is that we need to get a whole lot better at it; that is after we've accept the fact that we need new YOUNG fresh blood in the industry.

One of the things that is automatically built into the summer challenge is that aspect of inclusion. All participants must use digital media to reach out for feedback on there project, while also allowing input from seasoned professionals. I see it as a win win.

Other things that Ryan and I are pondering are other plans for speaking events; chiefly at the DC Facility Fusion Education Conference. Updates to come.
