The Mission

Found a great book - I'm actually reading it page by page, its 680 pages of bliss. (okay, I'm only on like page 50...)

"Theatre Management and Production in America" by Stephen Langley

He quotes The King and I: Getting to Know You
"That if you become a teacher, by your pupils you'll be taught." (I'll forgive the grammatical error.)

So far the book has hammered into me... "what's the motive" "why do you want this"

"...eliminate those who fundamentally disagree [with the mission]..."

The strategic plan of ANY entity MUST support the mission statement of that entity.

Pratt Institute's Mission Statement:

"The mission of Pratt Institute is to educate artists and creative professionals to be responsible contributors to society. Pratt seeks to instill in all graduates aesthetic judgment, professional knowledge, collaborative skills, and technical expertise.

With a firm grounding in the liberal arts and sciences, a Pratt education blends theory with creative application in preparing graduates to become leaders in their professions. Pratt enrolls a diverse group of highly talented and dedicated students, challenging them to achieve their full potential."

Currently Memorial Hall sits under the auspices of Multi-Media Services; their mission statement:

"MMS seeks to facilitate and enhance educational communication by providing materials in subjects and multimedia formats that support and enrich the Institute’s curriculum. The department’s aim is to assist students, faculty and staff in locating multimedia materials that meet their educational needs."

Multi-Media Services is under the auspices of Pratt Institute Library - their mission:

"The mission of the Pratt Institute Libraries is to provide outstanding service and access to a resource-rich environment that facilitates critical thinking and creative teaching and learning in the Pratt community."

This is the current organizational structure of Event Services (which oversees Memorial Hall) at Pratt Institute.

What I need to 'effectively' do for my thesis:

1) Propose a mission statement that is specific to Memorial Hall

2) Propose an organizational structure that can embody the current organizational structure, as well as allowing for growth under another department and becoming a self-reliant theatre under a department

*That's all I got for now.*
