RSC: Gift keeps giving

As a theatre person, having a drink post show is almost a religious act, not to mention an awesome networking tool.
  • I met a comedian who performs regularly at the first comedy club that I ever patronage in NYC.
  • I met a chef who works in a 5 star restaurant and he offered free dinner.
  • I had a sit down conversation about my drive and potential. They pointed out of the weaknesses that I have and how I could improve them.
The downside of this?
  1. Working in the non-profit world, it becomes very expensive, very fast.
  2. Sleep schedules become non-exisitant. If you work a second job, this becomes problematic.
I, by no means put in as much time as my cohorts at RSC this summer. Injury, work, and family, put me out of the loop so to say. But my sleep schedule is in a huge funk. Hence the 2-5am posts.

On the upside, it got me to thinking about the way in which we network within the industry. I think that it is one of my weak points, with or without a drink in hand. But from some of the resources I've pulled to get information and research material for my thesis, I think that I'm doing OK. As a student, I have a lot of access to information, as an employee, I have a lot more access; I feel it's a huge advantage to my project, if I use it properly. (insert some... this is part of being an arts administrator quote here). If I weren't an employee, I think I'd have to be much more focused and creative with the information I did have.
